BusinessEdge
The BusinessEdge Workshop programme has been established to help companies assess the importance of eBusiness to their own enterprise.
The field of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is vast and is
expanding rapidly. Even specialists in ICT find it difficult to keep abreast
of technical developments. New software products, improved hardware and
different technical standards appear daily. For small businesses, it is
an almost impossible task to identify the small sub-set of technology
which may be relevant to the business. It is even more difficult to select
the precise technical solutions which will deliver business benefit.
The BusinessEdge programme is designed specifically to help small-medium sized businesses select the technology and products most appropriate to their needs and to adopt a professional approach to implementation.
BusinessEdge uses a Workshop approach involving the senior management team of the participating
company. The workshop examines the company's strategic and business objectives.
Once these are agreed, the operational imperatives to support the business
strategy are reviewed. When the business and operational issues are understood,
the focus of the Workshop moves to eBusiness and its relevance to the
company. Where the company is unfamiliar with certain aspects of eBusiness
or related technologies, the Workshop provides tutorial content.
The aim of the BusinessEdge Workshop is to produce an outline Action Plan summarising the eBusiness initiatives relevant to the company and listing the costs, timescales and actions required for implementation. Subsequent to the Workshop, a Requirements Specification can be provided, if required. This can be used as the basis for procurement of an eBusiness solution.
Each BusinessEdge Workshop is tailored to the specific needs of the company attending. All information disclosed at the Workshop is treated in confidence. BusinessEdge is an independent Programme providing impartial advice. It does not seek to promote any particular vendor or product. Each BusinessEdge session endeavours to answer the following questions:
- What are the company’s key business/strategic objectives?
- How relevant is eBusiness to helping the company achieve these objectives?
- How important is eBusiness to the company?
- How will eBusiness help the ‘bottom line’?
- What are the costs in implementing an eBusiness solution?
- Does eBusiness pose a threat?
- How urgent is it that action is taken?
The BusinessEdge programme has been designed to be affordable to all companies. The programme is endorsed and promoted by Scottish Enterprise.
